Upgrade your Yamaha Tenere 700 with a Touratech Suspension rear shock. A night and day difference from Yamaha's original shocks, Touratech Suspension takes the Yamaha T7 to a whole new level of off-road capability by adding high quality damping along with PDS technology for those harder hits on the trail. The entire Touratech Suspension range comes with a custom spring rate and is designed specifically for touring and adventure motorcycles.
Touratech Suspension is the world's first shock absorber designed specifically for long distance touring with a fully loaded motorcycle. It has the strength, features and settings needed to go long distances on your Yamaha T7 with full luggage.
The Touratech Explore HP shock is built with high-strength materials, oversized components, 50% more spring preload adjustment and adjustable rebound damping that is tuned for optimal performance with a fully loaded motorcycle. With an Explore HP shock, preload can be quickly adjusted by turning the knob by hand.
This shock also comes in a low version that lowers the seat height by 35 mm. It is recommended to fit equalized -35mm reduction fork springs in the front when upgrading this rear shock.
"I couldn't be more pleased with my Touratech Suspension. It performed flawlessly for 15,000 miles on my trip from Seattle to the southern tip of Argentina. I now recommend it for my GlobeRiders customers and any adventure motorcyclist embarking on a serious trip." -Helge Pedersen.
why do I need this Shock Absorber Touratech?
Manufacturer's shocks: The shocks found on new motorcycles are designed to be economical and fit the needs of the average 77 kg rider with 6-7 kg of luggage. As a result, they often meet the minimum performance standard. With heavy loads, the standard suspension "bottoms out" easily and does not have sufficient range of preload or damping adjustment. They are beyond repair and, at heavy loads, are prone to seal failure and other failures. The rider often feels that the motorcycle is too spongy and does not handle properly.
Aftermarket Shocks - Most aftermarket shocks are made with high performance riding in mind, but are not designed for use on a fully loaded Tenere 700. Most can only support the rider's weight and do not offer good handling, or have adequate preload adjustment. Nor do they have the durability to go the distance with a fully loaded touring motorcycle.
how is Touratech Suspension different?
✓ 50% more preload adjustment than other shocks on the market. A generous 15mm of adjustment allows for a preload setting suitable for a fully loaded Tenere 700. Most shocks are 8 to 10 mm, which is not enough to accommodate a large amount of luggage or a passenger. The Explore HP shock offers a convenient preload adjustment knob that hydraulically changes your motorcycle's preload setting to compensate for the addition of a passenger or luggage.
✓ Bottom-out control with secondary compression dampingtechnology that prevents bottoming. Position Dependent Damping System(PDS) is like a hydraulic pillow at the end of the stroke.
✓ Cold-forged 6082 T6 aluminum shock body, machined to exacting standards, offers high strength and maximum heat dissipation.
✓ High-strength stainless steel bushings ensure that the shock absorber mounting points achieve clearance.
✓ Low-friction seal with integrated Teflon back-up ring maximizes performance and extends shock absorber life.
✓ Heavy-duty 16 mmoversize shaft made of chrome-moly steel for maximum strength and durability.
✓ Available in a variety of spring rates to suit driver weight requirements.
✓ Shock configuration for the fully loaded Tenere 700 right out of the box.
Explore HP Shock with PDS from Touratech Suspension: Features
PDS bottom-out control: imagine riding your fully loaded Tenere 700 on the 'Road of Bones' in Siberia and not having to worry about bottoming out the bike. The Position Dependent Damping System (PDS) makes this possible with a secondary damping piston that creates progressive damping. This allows you to keep the primary compression shock settings a little softer and more comfortable because the (PDS) shock will activate when needed like a hydraulic pillow to avoid bottoming out at the end of the shock stroke.

50% more spring preload adjustment: when you load your Tenere 700 with luggage and all the gear for a weekend trip or a long ride, the bike will sag under the weight of the load. Most shocks are NOT designed to handle this. With Touratech Suspension, you can adjust the preload to bring the bike back to level.
With the full 15mm adjustment, you can raise the rear of the bike up to 5cm inches to compensate for the load, restoring proper geometry for optimal handling and overall feel of the bike. Most shock preload adjusters only have 8-10mm adjustment which can only raise the rear of the motorcycle 3cm.

Hydraulic preload adjustment: with a Touratech Explore HP shock, the spring preload can be adjusted hydraulically by turning the knob by hand for quick adjustment .

Stainless steel bushings: while many shocks on the market use aluminum bushings where the shock mounts to the bike, the Touratech suspension uses high-strength, non-corrosive stainless steel. This creates a strong, rigid connection that is important for a loaded Tenere 700. Stainless steel bushings protect against corrosion and seizure and offer low maintenance and long life.

Low-friction seal: The Touratech seals have a backbone that virtually eliminates frictional interference with damping activity. In other dampers, the seal deforms as damping pressure increases and causes friction on the shaft.
The Touratech Suspension range is equipped with a patented low-friction seal that is supported by a Teflon back-up ring. This Teflon backbone prevents the seal from deforming and eliminates shaft friction even at high pressures. The result is improved performance and reliability, even in harsh environments.

Oversized high-strength shaft: While most manufacturers use a 14 mm carbon steel shaft, the Touratech suspension uses a 16 mm high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel alloy.
Aluminum shock body: Some manufacturers use a steel shock body to reduce cost. The Touratech suspension uses cold-forged 6082 T6 aluminum 6082 T6 for the shock body because it is lightweight, strong and durable. It also dissipates heat 30% more effectively than steel, resulting in more stable and predictable damping that offers better handling and a smoother ride. A cooler shock will also have more consistent damping and a longer service life.
Adjustable Rebound Damping: This shock is ready for adventure with its rebound damping levels set to ride a fully loaded Tenere 700. The rebound damping is also fully adjustable so the ride can be"customized" to your preference.

Custom Springs: Touratech suspension is available in a variety of spring ranges so we can make sure your shock has the right spring for your application.
Fully Repairable: All Touratech suspension is fully repairable and can be customized or rebuilt by Touratech-Spain or any certified Touratech Suspension technician.
