Why do I need this?

The original shock absorbers from the motorcycle manufacturers: the shocks found on new motorcycles are designed to be economical and fit the needs of an average 77 kilo rider with 15 pounds of luggage. As a result, they often meet the minimum standard for function. The performance of a stock shock absorber often does not respond with the performance that is expected. Under heavy loads, the stock suspension "collapses" easily and does not offer sufficient damping or preload adjustment range. They are not repairable and, under heavy loads, are prone to seal overheating and other failures. The rider often feels the motorcycle "too soft" and it does not handle properly. The OEM dynamic suspension found on the water-cooled R1200GS uses a valving system designed for automotive shocks, and is not reactive enough to give the bike the traction and comfort it needs.

After market shocks: most aftermarket shocks are made with performance in mind, but are not designed for use on a fully loaded touring motorcycle. Most can only support the rider's weight and do not offer good handling or have adequate preload adjustment. They are also not durable enough to go the distance on a fully loaded touring motorcycle. The Touratech Plug & Travel DDA shocks are fully compatible with the complex computer system at BMW. You won't have to worry about cable splicing or error codes with the Touratech suspension .

Remote reservoir: Touratech dynamic shock features 30% more front capacity and 60% more rear reserve capacity than the original BMW suspension. This piggy-back style remote reservoir, made of high-strength aluminum, is designed to keep fluid cool and ensures pressure stability in the shock, resulting in improved performance. The increased oil capacity results in longer service life.

Adjustable high-speed and low-speed damping: Separate settings for high-speed and low-speed compression damping allow full control of damping tuning to give you the precise handling characteristics you want in any condition. This allows you to control how the bike handles in a high-speed corner to how it behaves while soaking up a bump.

Floating Piston Superiority: Touratech suspension uses a floating piston design that offers the best damping performance because it physically separates the nitrogen gas from the oil. Most shock absorbers use oil emulsion damping that allows the oil to mix with the nitrogen gas in a foaming process that essentially "thins" the oil and prevents the shock from functioning properly. When the oil is "foamed," the bike sinks easily and also rises too quickly, resulting in erratic handling and an unstable ride.

With the floating piston design of the Touratech suspension, there is a physical separation of oil and nitrogen gas, which means you can ride rough roads all day long and enjoy consistently high performance. Why buy a shock whose performance gets worse the more you ride it? Before you invest in a new suspension for your R1200GS, make sure it has a floating piston design.

Stainless steel bushings: While many shocks use aluminum bushings where the shock mounts to the motorcycle, Touratech Suspension uses high-strength, non-corrosive stainless steel. This DDA / Plug and Go suspension from Touratech Suspension is built with the same precision components and elements that have already proven their worth in our shock tubes, proven over thousands of miles in the harshest conditions. The heart of this shock tube is the high-performance DDA valve developed and patented by Tractive. Thanks to it, the damping can be adapted in tenths of a second to every driving situation. Our shock absorber tubes, which are subjected to high stresses during long journeys, have a larger piston diameter and thus a larger oil volume. As a result, they have better cooling and a higher damping frequency. The shock absorber tube and the suspension itself are therefore more stable and the seals do not suffer as much.

Important note:
- With this suspension solution, it is recommended that the front and rear shock absorber tubes are replaced together.
- This is the only way to achieve the best ride behavior with this premium suspension.

The base configuration installed here is adjusted for a driver with up to 100 kg of luggage included. Adaptations are possible in case of much higher loads or other special requirements. In this case we adapt the shock absorber tube with a higher spring hardness to your personal requirements as well as other configurations.
