The new Garmin Zumo 396 LMT-S is the evolution of Garmin Zumo 395, bringing new features with respect to its predecessor and improvements that make this Zumo396 a product with more advanced technology and improved performance.
The Garmin 396 is the first device in its segment that is a motorcycle GPS with WiFi. That means that from now on we will be able to update our device directly from it, not having to use our personal computer for these functions. In addition, when a new update is available and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, you will automatically receive an on-screen notification to run the updates at the touch of a button.
We will also be able to share routes with our biker friends and acquaintances, or download them from a website or application and routes.
To the already known option of Foursquare, Garmin now adds to its GPS for motorcycle TripAdvisor. The well-known website allows us in this way to know in real time the places that we have nearby, either to stay, to put gas, eat, or make a stop at an interesting tourist place.
With the options of Garmin Adventurous Routing allows you to avoid, for example, freeway routes. Zūmo 396LMT-S allows you to specify your routing preferences to find those exciting winding, bumpy roads that blend into the terrain.
In addition, you can easily send GPX files from your phone to a zūmo or share them with other riders so you can all follow the same route. When your device is paired to your phone, the Smartphone Link app activates LiveTrack, a great feature that allows your friends to track your location wherever your adventure takes you.
The screen of the Garmin 396 retains the dimensions of the 4.3-inch touch screen that its predecessor had, although it is somewhat narrower and with a more modern aesthetic, returning to the retro square look that is currently worn in many of the best electronic devices on the market.
Glove-compatible - like all Garmins - and sunlight-readable, this LED display withstands high temperatures, humidity, fumes and ultraviolet rays.
As for the rear, the power button can now be found on the upper left side of the reverse side -looking at the screen face on. We can also see how the docking part changes from horizontal to vertical. Of course, you can still use, if you want, the charging base of the previous device (although the new charging base is included in the price).
Garmin's new device has four hours of autonomy on a full charge. In any case, being a device prepared to be connected to an electrical source, we should never have problems of autonomy on the motorcycle.
This new Garmin Zumo GPS retains many of the route assistance and navigation systems that make Garmin GPS devices unique. With the Real Direction system, you can forget about the classic directions, getting instead much more detailed and natural directions, such as "turn after the red building" or "next to the glass building".
In addition, while driving with your zūmo 396LMT-S, the lane Guidance function provides you with voice prompts and brightly colored arrows on the screen to show you which lane to take at the next turn or exit. Junctions and intersections along the route are shown to make it easier for you to navigate complex transitions.
In addition, with zūmo's Upcoming Places feature you can easily see places of interest and critical points along the route without leaving the map view on the navigator screen.
The simple waypoint function allows you to add a point on the map to adjust your route so that you can drive through the areas you are most interested in or follow specific roads.

All of these tools are important to use in conjunction with Smart Link, Garmin's free smartphone app, that allows you to squeeze all the potential that any of the Zumo GPS devices offer and put at your fingertips.
Of course, Garmin's 396 continues to offer the features that make it a GPS for motorcycle with Bluettoh to connect it, for example, to any intercom device of SENA or any other brand on the market.
You will be able to sync your zūmo with a compatible smartphone and a headset, or a well with a bluetooth helmet as the SENA Momentum, this allows you to make and receive calls without having to remove your gloves or helmet.

Thethe new Garmin Zumo 396 GPS comes with another new feature which is topographic maps.Topographic maps are the field maps, the ones that would be used to make unpaved tracks. In this way, the new Garmin allowsOff-road trips that other devices do not contemplate.These maps are not included, but must be purchased from the Garmin website where you can download them to get the most out of this device.
What is happening on the road ahead? This GPS allows you to access live weather and traffic information using the Smartphone Link app. This free mobile app connects zūmo with your iPhone smartphoneOr Android.
To improve concentration on the road and promote safer driving, zūmo 396LMT-S provides useful alerts on upcoming sharp curves, speed changes, level crossings, animal crossings and school zones, among other elements. In addition, it notifies you when you are about to drive the wrong way on a one-way street. You will also receive traffic light and speed camera alerts. And for longer trips, a rest alert will even suggest rest times and possible stopping areas after several hours on the road. For added peace of mind, the automatic incident notification feature built into the zūmo navigator will send a text message with your location information to your pre-determined contacts in the event of an incident.
Zūmo396LMT-S comes standard with an integrated route processor with a digital fuel gauge. This makes it easy to calculate how many more miles you can drive before you run out of gas. Fuel gauge alerts are activated when you need to refuel and even provide you with gas station location options.
A handy speed limit indicator lets you know when to slow down. Plus, you get a digital compass display and a database of motorcycle-specific points of interest (POIs) so you can locate motorcycle repair services, dealers and other locations with ease. zūmo also features a service history log to help you keep track of service data, mileage and maintenance performed on your motorcycle.
Differences between the Garmin Zumo 396 and the Garmin Zumo 396346 are the same as those seen between the Garmin 395 and 345. The 396 comes with all the complete maps of Europe preinstalled for life, while the 346 comes with only the maps of central Europe. As far as the other features are concerned, both devices are exactly the same.
